Thought leading insights to help his clients succeed

Eric Bergman
Eric Bergman conducted his first media relations campaign (and first provided media coaching) during the summer of 1981 while promoting two student theatre arts productions, Pal Joey and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

"I gave similar advice then that I would give today," he says. "Relax, let the interviewer guide the process, tell the story of the production, and let people know the dates of performances and where they can purchase tickets."

Eric wrote his first speech for a senior executive a year later, during the summer of 1982. During his 33-year career, he has worked in virtually every aspect of public relations and corporate communication. He has been self-employed since 1985.

For more than 20 years, Eric's business has focused on presentation skills and media training. In the early 1990s, he developed two unique and effective training programs: Present With Ease and At Ease With the Media.

"I developed At Ease With the Media to set the global standard for modern media training," Eric says. "The program is based on the highest models of excellence in communication management: win-win outcomes."

Eric developed Present With Ease to help his clients communicate effectively in what he likes to call "the medium of face-to-face communication."

In 2012, he published a book entitled 5 Steps to Conquer 'Death by PowerPoint', which not only pans the use of slideware in modern presentations, but provides insights into turning presentations into two-way exchanges that save time and enhance results.

The foreword of the book is written by John Sweller, Ph.D., who is a world leading expert on how the human mind processes information to learn. Professor Sweller writes: “Eric Bergman’s techniques are a window to the future of this important human activity.”

Eric holds a bachelor's degree communication studies from Athabasca University and a two-year diploma in advertising and public relations from Grant MacEwan University.

He is an accredited business communicator (ABC), an accredited public relations practitioner (APR), and a master communicator (MC)—which is the highest distinction that can be bestowed upon a Canadian member of the International Association of Business Communicators. In 2014, he was named a member of the College of Fellows of the Canadian Public Relations Society (FCPRS).
